Monarch airline back from the dead

monarchMonarch airline has announced that it expects to be back into profit this year after skirting around the precipice of collapse just eight months ago.

The restructuring undertaken by the carrier has so far reduced losses by £40m but it also resulted in the axing of 700 jobs and pay reductions of 30% for pilots.

Growth forecasts for the eurozone remain low

Algarve drug arrests include major hashish importer

hashThe GNR have made four arrests for drug trafficking, one of the men is a businessman in the clothing game who has been a hashish importer for years.

The GNR arrested the men in Quarteira and found they successfully had nabbed the local Mr Big whom they had been tracking and who has been wholesaling hashish to other dealers in the Algarve and in Setúbal.

Portugal’s employment prospects increase

The jobless problem has eased somewhat in Portugal dropping to 13% from the 14.6% recorded in April last year. Nevertheless, although the number has reduced, there are still 668,000 people in the country estimated to be without work.
