Lufthansa on strike - TAP finance director quits

lufthansaGerman carrier Lufthansa has had to cancel nearly half of its long-haul flights due to a continuing strike by pilots.

Strikes will take place between 02:00 GMT and 22:59 GMT on Thursday and will affect long-haul and cargo flights.

Brussels - Albuquerque defends Golden Visa scheme

GoldenVisaPortugal’s finance minister Maria Luís Albuquerque hit back at suggestions that the Golden Visa scheme was in any way under threat, despite Operation Labyrinth which has uncovered a web of corruption, illegal payments, misuse of positions of trust and money laundering.

Albuquerque was asked by a Latvian MEP at the European Parliament in Brussels whether perhaps this scheme should be a temporary one and end soon due to the adverse publicity generated.

Scotland Yard suggests some direct questions for 11 Madeleine suspects

scotlandyardDetectives from Scotland Yard are to fly back to Faro next week to sit in on the interviews of 11 suspects in the continuing Madeleine McCann case.

The Operation Grange team has devised a reported 253 questions to put to the suspects, which may include Robert Murat, Mrs Murat’s wife aka Michaela Walczuck, her former partner Luís António and two other expat Britons.

Portugal Telecom sale agreed with French company Altice

ptFrench telecom company Altice SA reported over the weekend that the race to control Portugal Telecom is over as PT's Brazilan owners had agreed to 'exclusive talks' over the detail of the Altice €7.4 billion offer.

This exclusivity agreement ends the race for Isabel dos Santos, businesswoman and daughter of Angola’s dictator, who has been left at the altar,  as have been the private equity bidders Apax Partners and Bain Capital which had hoped to make a killing on the upside when PT is sorted out and ready for resale.
