The head of the Algarve Naturist Club, Alvaro Campos, has revealed that a section of Meia Praia is officially to be classified as the Algarve’s fourth nudist beach.
In practice, a 400 metre section of Meia Praia at the Alvor end has quietly been used by nudists for over 30 years with no trouble from the authorities.
When its status is confirmed, the section of Meia Praia will be Portugal’s ninth nudist beach. The Algarve will have four with Meia Praia being added to Isla de Tavira (1996), Odeceixe-Aljezur (2004) and Isla Deserta-Faro (2011).
Alvaro Campos and the president of Odiáxere parish council agreed that this is a good opportunity to increase and diversify the tourism offer in the area.
Meia Praia is extends for about four kilometers from the riverside area of Lagos to the Alvor estuary. It is a small part of this beach along the estuary which will be registered as a nudist beach.
