The GNR today announced the arrest of a German couple in São Bartolomeu de Messines, Silves after a raid which seized a cache of military grade illegal weapons, combat knives, cannabis and a home distillery.
In addition to 16 knives there was a semi-automatic Heckler and Koch used only by various armies, and a high-caliber rifle with telescopic sights.
Astounded officers seized also various types of ammunition including some described as ‘conflict caliber’ along with 52 cannabis plants, 1,896 grams of dried cannabis leaves, 42 grams of cannabis seed, a still for producing alcohol, 62 bottles of medroho, 28 solar panels used to keep the greenhouse warm, several packs of fertilizer and €410.
The German couple, in their early 50s who sensibly lived in secluded area near Messines, were caught after an investigation into trafficking and prohibited weapons led officers to their property.
The operation was initiated by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the GNR in Silves with the help of the heavy duty Military Intervention and Special Operations Group of the GNR Intervention Unit.
