Portuguese police have seized 850 kilos of hashish off the Vilamoura coast and arrested three men, all non-Portuguese.
The sizeable discovery of drugs happened after an inflatable boat was intercepted and found to have the hashish hidden on board.
The seizure was a result of a detailed investigation over several months coordinated by Portimão's Polícia Judiciária.
According to the police report, the eight metre long rubber boat left the Algarve coast from the Vilamoura area and was heading in the direction of Spain, packed with the drugs.
When back on shore, police identified two 4x4 vehicles as belonging to the smugglers and seized also some €2,300 in cash and the usual array of mobile phones.
The three foreigners aged between 20 and 42 are off to see the judge for questioning and most likely will be held on remand as they are foreign and this is a drugs case.

Or 'Olhão' - oops!
oh dear, i just did,
Curious that the PJ, after months of 'detailed work' somehow allow the drugs to land. But then go after the 'local transporters' - not the more professional ones who brought the load into Portugal to start with. As though PJ had stumbled on the haul and then staked it out.
Also seems an odd route - along the coast and dealing with two sets of maritime police and also night fishermen ? Even with a new moon the boat leaves a wake. Further north there are a thousand ways to get into Spain. And traditionally no GNR or SEF works after 6pm.
