Almost $5 million stolen from Ryanair

ryanair12Ryanair has been the victim of hackers who managed to steal nearly $5 million.

The fraudsters managed to get the money out the airline’s accounts through an electronic transfer via a Chinese bank.

Ryanair called upon Dublin’s Criminal Assets Bureau for help in recovering the money.

Ryanair confirmed it had “investigated a fraudulent electronic transfer via a Chinese bank last week.

The carrier uses dollars to buy fuel and the money could have been accessed during one of these transactions, says the Irish Times.

“The airline has been working with its banks and the relevant authorities and understands that the funds – less than $5m – have now been frozen. The airline expects these funds to be repaid shortly, and has taken steps to ensure that this type of transfer cannot recur.”
