The majority of our clients are international and have worked all over the World but when it came to those retiring they decided to choose Portugal and not to return to their original country and here are some of their interesting reasons.
The climate is one of the leading reasons with an average of 300 days of sunshine a year and many commenting just how bright the sky is in the Algarve and how the days appear longer with an impressive 12 hours of daily sunshine, which goes some way to explaining why Portugal is one of the sunniest places in Europe. Some other reasons are buying more property for your money, compared to their country and the cost of living is better in many areas. Clients also chose Portugal for health reasons, they comment how the sunshine and clean air makes them feel healthier, as well as the outdoor lifestyle, fresh fish, fruit and vegetables and the local food is tastier plus they feel safer and like the health care available both public and private. Clients like the community spirit, finding the Portuguese friendly, approachable, and are a welcoming nation. In small villages you will witness residents greeting each other and even greeting you, as they pass in the street, or enter the Post Office or Parish Office with a simple Bom Dia (good morning) or Boa Tarde (good afternoon). Clients are drawn to the beautiful sandy beaches and clear crystal sea waters, the green hills and open countryside. They love exploring the pretty villages, discovering the culture, charming castle towns and historic churches. Surprisingly clients comment on the roads, how empty they are, how distracting they can be with such beautiful views, and that there are fewer traffic jams in the Algarve and barely any speed cameras. Clients come here for a simpler, quieter and slower pace of life, with more personal space.
However it isn’t just retirees that the Algarve appeals to. With an increase in the number of people who have come to the realisation they are able to continue with their existing jobs working online, and no longer need to commute nor live near their employers, this has encouraged a younger generation to make the move rather than waiting until they retire. More families are turning to the national and international school choices available to raise their children in Portugal. A big draw to Portugal is its proximity to the UK and the rest of Europe from Faro International Airport with plenty of flights with low air fares on value airlines with some people even commuting.
