The popularity of such clubs has helped drive up cannabis use to the point where Spain now is believed to have the highest consumption of any country after Iceland and the US. It overtook the Netherlands to gain third position.

mcdonaldsA study by TGI Marktest concluded that 50.5% of the Portuguese admitted to having been to a fast food outlet at least once in the past two months.

This equates to more than 4.3 million Portuguese resorting to a fast food restaurant, and the majority of respondents who answered ‘yes’ unsurprisingly are at the younger end of the scale.

Lloyds boss gives pro-government 'standard of living' speech

lloydsInternationally respected banking chief António Horta Osório was back in Portugal last night giving some advice about debt control, reviewing Portugal's reforms and looking at how to increase the population's standard of living.

The chairman of Lloyds Bank said that Portugal must continue to implement structural reforms to enable the economy to grow "over time" and emphasised that Portugal must continue to control its debt.

Portugal's taxpayers reluctant to part with their money

financaslogoIf the money from income tax and VAT receipts continues to grow at the rate registered to July this year, the government estimates that taxpayers can expect a decrease in 2016 of the income tax surcharge from the current 3.5% to 2.6%.

The rise in taxes received by the treasury can be viewed against a background of evasion and delayed payments with over 30% of taxed due, remaining unpaid.
