Lisbon and the Algarve - the most expensive areas for houses

lisbon2Portuguese bank valuations of domestic property continue to rise, up an average of 20% since the dark days of 2013
 
The average value per square metre was €1,171, as at the end of April this year, the highest since June 2010.
 
Since April 2013, valuations overall have increased 19%, according to data from the National Statistics Institute.
 
Two regions have led in this valuations increase over the past five years, the metropolitan area of ​​Lisbon and the Algarve. In these areas the valuation of houses has increased 24% to averages of €1,423 and €1,467 per square metre, respectively.
 
These two areas also are the most expensive in the country.
 
Despite this widespread rise in housing valuations, there is one region where they have declined over the last five years, the Alto Alentejo where the value per square meter fell 1.8% in five years to just €807 per square metre.
 
Other areas where increases only have been around 2%, well below the national average,  are the Douro, Alentejo Litoral and Lezíria do Tejo.
