An explosion at a house near the village of Portela Alta de Baixo, near Odeleite, has killed a pensioner and injured his wife.According to the Civil Protection Agency, the explosion took place a few minutes before 7 o'clock this morning, March 8th.
The 78-year-old man was killed and his wife was injured but she is said to be out of danger.
The cause of the explosion is not yet known, but it is suspected that it was due to a faulty or misused gas bottle.
The village property where the couple lived has ites rear section torn apart by the initial blast and a fire immediately took hold.
Vila Real de Santo António Bombeiros, GNR and Civil Protection agency personnel from Castro Marim, rushed to the scene, as did officers from the Judical Police to investigate the causes of the explosion.
