Portuguese mother and daughter pelted with eggs in “racist attack” in London

Portuguese mother and daughter pelted with eggs in “racist attack” in LondonIn what has been described as a racist attack, a Portuguese mother and her daughter have been pelted with eggs by a group who set on them after hearing them speaking Portuguese on their way to a Leyton health centre.

RTP news highlights the story today, suggesting the two victims have been so traumatised by the incident that they daren’t leave the house and are “considering returning to Portugal”.

The attack was communicated to police, who took notes, the woman’s husband told RTP, but then ‘archived’ the case due to “lack of proof”.

The problem with this explanation is that there were “so many CCTV cameras” that the family is now wondering whether the British authorities simply did not want to find the perpetrators.

Reacting to the case, Secretary of State for the Communities José Luís Carneiro told RTP that “there are Portuguese families living difficult moments in various parts of the world, not just London”.

The family meantime has asked not to be named.

Indeed, the woman has been so badly affected, that she could not even speak to RTP, says the station.

The family has been living in the U.K. for the last 20 years.

According to RTP, health centre staff in Leyton have confirmed that similar attacks happen everyday, not only to Portuguese people but to others.

The husband however is convinced it was a racist attack because nothing was actually stolen from the two women, and one of the group involved, a young man in his 20s holding a bottle of beer, is understood to have shouted: “They are not English”.

Thankfully, this incident has not been blown out of proportion, however, I would love to know how the incident came about.

A group of people, let's assume youngish, out drinking and causing trouble for laughs.
Collectively, they decide to look for suitable victims for what they perceived a low level attack.
WHERE DID THE EGGS COME FROM?
Were they out shopping while drinking? If this were the case then why were no other foodstuffs reported.
We can only assume that the eggs were purchased recently and purely for the purposes of committing this heinous crime, so CCTV must exist (See how I avoided the "eggsist" joke there?). The police could have scrambled the Air Support Unit, or something. (Doh!)
So now, what we have is a group, drinking, looking for trouble (no, I'm not going to say "egging each other on") and they spy their target, who could have been an old bloke, or some younger kids, or any other person or people, it matters not, because it isn't personal. Or quite possibly intentionally racist.
More than likely the perpetrators were not of a high IQ.
Hopefully this Mother and Child have had it explained (no time for puns) that this wasn't common, or personal, or in any way their fault. Does everybody remember the PAEDO graffiti painted on the family's house, when it turned out the Mother was a Paediatrician.

Unfortunately there is no cure for stupid.

I'm a white anglo saxon and was "egged" in London. I've no idea of the race of the perpetrator who threw the eggs from a car and this is of no importance, and I didn't even bother to report it.

This seems like a gross over-reaction to an event that took place in Leyton, an area where it is rare to spot a native Englishman, so was probably perpetrated by one ethnic minority against another - if that is considered important which it isn't.

Time this victim culture was knocked on the head and people started to man up. If people don't like the country they live in, be it England or Portugal, then leave.

Why should there be double standards over racism here in Portugal? That more should be expected in the UK from us British.

Portugal needs to open up far more about its inferiority complex viz the UK. Only buried within squirming apologies from best selling Portuguese book Bifes Mal Passados author João Magueijo that rants about the UK. Explaining that he felt driven to write it as "'we Portuguese feel inferior to the British" is there a hint. But still no Portuguese goes public to justify it.

But its a self taught inferiority that has cost thousands of British their health, retirements and life savings here in Portugal - through mal-administration, fraud, dishonesty, over charging, bad advice etc etc

No British comes to Portugal intending racism against the locals but many, like the McCann parents have left back to the UK having only ever experienced the worst treatment. And theirs goes on endlessly !

Ms Jones hints at something else that many Brits have experienced here in Portugal. That crimes against us are not at all relevant to the 'authorities'. Also any complaint by a Brit. versus any locals automatically involving something unheard of in the UK for this kind of minor offence - Defamation.

What if we now "Portuguese" the experience? So, having been 'egged' we make our complaint at the Police Station. That a lawyer tells us weeks later, after we expect a full investigation, was archived the same day. He / she also helpfully telling us British that there is very unlikely to be any usable CCTV footage available as there are very few in Portugal. As they invade privacy. If there was a camera in the vicinity it will have been declared to the prosecutor as switched off that day for servicing.

In court, anyone accused, will produce ample evidence that they are trainee lawyers, accountants and the Portugal.

The lawyer then cheerfully suggesting " Forget this happened. This is Portugal not the UK. Grow up or go home now, paleface" (Oh ... and here's my bill for this advice)

What a load of cack. Suspect you are one person posting under several pseudonyms. Go to the English Daily Mail website - they love your sort of nasty person over there.

I am unclear what race these people belong to. There is no such thing as either a Portuguese or British race.
What we have here is pure xenophobia, alive and kicking among the Little Englanders of Britain. I agree with liveaboard; UK has become an unpleasant place to live.

In court, anyone accused, will produce ample evidence that they are trainee lawyers, accountants and theoretical physicists from very important families. In his judgment the judge will clear them all of 'egging' you British and award them costs. Which will be horrendous as apparently expensive lawyers from Lisbon are involved. This will also mean you and any helpful local involved in identifying the 'eggers' will be liable for everything they own. Say goodbye to your house here in Portugal.

Quoting Sara Jones:
Certainly, as a quality Briton it is clearly understood that this kind of behaviour is entirely wrong in the UK. But we have no idea if these were not themselves coloured 'wannabe' British and that the Portuguese didn't in some way trigger the incident, by using 'superior' body language.

We must repeatedly remind ADN readers, and the world, that victimising the British in Portugal, because of their race and skin colour, is still entirely acceptable. No equivalent 'quality Portuguese' exists who will stand up and not only say publicly that this is wrong. To advocate 'Befriend a Brit' and that 'a Briton is for life - not just for Christmas'. Anti-racism protests by native Portuguese in Portugal are totally unheard of.

The concept of race is also still entirely missing in 'official Portuguese Government figures' or crime statistics. The UK Police will at least have logged this bad behaviour, as they have done for decades, as 'apparently racistly motivated'.

Your contribution is hate speech. Be very ashamed.

RACISM. All over the World. Humans are, actually, despicable. The brits are one of the most racist, intolerant and self-opiniated people I have known.
Get them out of Europe as soon as we can: they do not deserve EU. They are only there to make a mess and excite the others against each other.
it's this sort of uncooperative attitude that has made the U.K. electorate vote to leave after years of paying in to an EU system that now is run by a bigoted alcoholic.
