Health unions plan strike in the Algarve

nurseThe regional coordinator of the Portuguese Nurses Union in the Algarve, Nuno Manjua, said today that a strike is being planned at Faro, Portimão and Lagos hospitals to highlight the lack of staff and medical materials.

In a joint press conference with the Civil Service Union of the South & the Azores, the Association of Doctors of the South, and the Trade Unions of the Algarve, Nuno Manjua said today in Faro that they did not understand the "cynicism" of an announcement by the government to recruit 100 doctors for the region when the government knows these posts will not be filled as medical professionals are aware of the situation in the Algarve and are awaiting developments.

The strike proposal will be formalised this on Friday at a union meeting at Faro Hospital and at another one next Monday in Lagos and Portimão.
