AIRC Annual Golf Event Raises €7000

AIRC ANNUAL GOLF EVENT RAISES €7000On a beautiful sunny day in late November, Almancil International Rotary Club held their 6th annual golf event at the Dom Pedro Victoria Course, Vilamoura.  As always, the event was expertly organised by Club members John Slatter and Bill Browne.  More than 100 people participated in the tournament.

Professional golfers Vitor Londot Lopes and Ricardo Costa volunteered their time to accompany the golfers around the course giving encouragement and gentle persuasion to take part in various challenges.  At a presentation ceremony afterwards, awards were presented for various achievements; the award for the highest scoring team going to Barry Smeaten and his fellow team members.

At the most recent Club meeting President Bill Browne thanked Dom Pedro for the use of the course, everyone who took part and those who helped.  He announced that more than 7,000 euros had been raised.  These funds will be used towards the Club’s project to provide a sensory garden at the Association for Parkinson and Alzheimer’s sufferers in Vila Sol Algarve, and other ongoing projects.

It was a double celebration in November for the Club.  Member and past President Uschi Kuhn, at the Algarve Awards on 30 November, accepted the award on behalf of Almancil International Rotary Club for their ‘Contribution to Charitable Causes’.  Uschi was also runner up in the Special Recognition category.  “We’re very proud of Uschi and our members” said President Bill.  “With their help we will continue our efforts in 2024 and beyond to make a difference to deserving causes in our locality.”
