Half of Portugal’s companies would use Uber for business travel

taxifaroA consumer trends study in Portugal shows that 11% of those companies surveyed already use Uber, the controversial app that has caused Portugal’s taxi drivers to protest en masse.

The study showed also that "49% of companies surveyed consider they would use Uber.”

Monchique council approves tax incentives for families

monchiquemayorAs part of a continuing strategy by Monchique council to encourage young families to move to the council area, and to ease financial burdens for those already there, new measures have been approved to make life financially easier.

The proposal by Monchique’s mayor, Rui André, (pictured), has been passed by the council and rates bills will be reduced depending on how many dependent children live at an address.

Portimão road chaos

portimaoFor those driver caught in the traffic tail-backs approaching the ‘new’ bridge over the Arade river just north of Portimão, things will get worse as both lanes over the bridge will be shut off tonight and traffic diverted through the city.

The bridge, forming part of the EN125 between Lagoa and Penina, will be closed from 21:00 until 1:00 due to resurfacing and work on the bridge’s towers.

TAP deal still may fall through

tap2The president of TAP, Fernando Pinto, is confident in achieving the airline's privatisation, but as for giving us a date, "soon" is the best he can manage at the moment, blaming what he sees as the breakneck speed at which the deal is being done.

Six months to tie up the deal to sell TAP is quick for Pinto who has had ten years to get the airline into a saleable position so everything must now seem rather rushed.

Cursed relics sent back

The site has received around one hundred packages which are returning relics which have been pilfered. Frequently, accompanying letters say that the items have brought only bad luck.

Cheap fuel at Beja airport as ANA encourages airlines

bejaAt long last, Portugal’s French owned airports operator ANA is making an effort to breathe some life into Beja airport.

The site was converted to a civilian airport in 2011 but has been little used since despite its key position in the heart of the Alentejo where tourism and farming are the only two activities keeping the region ticking over.

EN125 blocked by three car pile-up

crashA three car pile-up on the notorious EN125 in Odiáxere, Lagos injured five people and blocked the road for hours.

Two of the five were seriously hurt. According to the emergency services control in Faro the accident occurred shortly after 16:00 on Sunday and involved three cars in collision near the Arão turnoff.
