In his Christmas sermon, the archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, calls the Islamic State a ‘Herod of today’ which is destroying Christianity in its birthplace.
An Islamic State “apocalypse” has left Christianity facing elimination in the very region where the faith was born two millennia ago, according to the archbishop.
‘Solidarity’ was the theme chosen for the traditional Christmas message from the Cardinal Patriarch of the diocese of Lisbon who spoke of refugees from war-torn countries and the duty of all to improving their conditions.
"There are many people throughout the world that particularly are affected by conflicts of all kinds, we want to be involved and committed to improving conditions so they can live in peace and security," said Manuel Clemente in his message broadcast on RTP1.
