The government and Galp-ENI are really playing games with the court and with the people, writes ASMAA - the Algarve Surf and Marine Activities Association.
A simple question that requires just a 'yes or no' answer has been asked over and over since the president of Galp announced in the last quarter of 2018 that the company was stopping all drilling in Portugal.
And the question is simple: we requested that they officially inform the court if they are or not abandoning their interests in oil and gas exploration in Portugal. It’s a simple 'yes or no' answer.
But do you think they answer in a definitive manner? Nope! Their last three answers have been inconclusive, vague and ambiguous.
The latest instruction by the court to get a definitive answer took place on the 11 February. The same day that our legal matter was initially due to be heard. The court has now given the government and Galp-ENI five days within which to reply, which will take us to next Monday – but with 3 days grace - we may only get to hear they latest reply by Thursday next week.
Let’s hope that this is 4th time lucky … and that we will have answers to the questions that need transparency and conclusive information.
Once again … we are playing the waiting game and in the process the Association's costs keep on rising.

Every month as our fight to stop the drilling in Portugal continues and our costs continue to increase we have to spend so much time and energy that could be better applied to the causes that we care about, in raising funds. We just grateful that we have no salaries to pay otherwise we would have packed our bags and given up a long time ago. But its still demoralising to say the least.
