Galp-ENI Aljezur oil drilling - Loulé Court continues to push for transparency

OilReferendumSMALLThe government and Galp-ENI are really playing games with the court and with the people, writes ASMAA - the Algarve Surf and Marine Activities Association.

A simple question that requires just a 'yes or no' answer has been asked over and over since the president of Galp announced in the last quarter of 2018 that the company was stopping all drilling in Portugal.

And the question is simple: we requested that they officially inform the court if they are or not abandoning their interests in oil and gas exploration in Portugal. It’s a simple 'yes or no' answer.

But do you think they answer in a definitive manner? Nope! Their last three answers have been inconclusive, vague and ambiguous.

The latest instruction by the court to get a definitive answer took place on the 11 February. The same day that our legal matter was initially due to be heard. The court has now given the government and Galp-ENI five days within which to reply, which will take us to next Monday – but with 3 days grace - we may only get to hear they latest reply by Thursday next week.

Let’s hope that this is 4th time lucky … and that we will have answers to the questions that need transparency and conclusive information.

Once again … we are playing the waiting game and in the process the Association's costs keep on rising.

AN APPEAL FOR DONATIONS

We are grateful to all that donated last week. THANK YOU! We have raised 815€ out of the 2455€ that we needed to have by the 8th of this month. Meaning that we are still short 1640€ and we are now on the 16th of the month.

Every month as our fight to stop the drilling in Portugal continues and our costs continue to increase we have to spend so much time and energy that could be better applied to the causes that we care about, in raising funds. We just grateful that we have no salaries to pay otherwise we would have packed our bags and given up a long time ago. But its still demoralising to say the least.

As we’ve said before, we are not professional fundraisers, and it does take it out of us, but once again we appeal to all that can assist, to please donate now. Just take 5 minutes and make a donation to help finance our anti-oil drilling/anti-fracking battle to protect YOUR rights in this beautiful country that is Portugal.

DONATE NOW 25€, 50€, 100€ or whatever amount you want to donate. We will be grateful.

You can donate via PayPal (including credit card payments): info@asmaa-algarve.org or through the donate button on our website:

Ed,
Have you harassed the judicial system in the past, perhaps.

I have pointed out its inefficiencies from time to time, certainly, but waiting five years for a court case is taking the proverbial. Still, it's only €1.6 million compensation claim, so not surprised it has been buried in excuses...

Ed: Hints of your painfully expensive story with no end in sight surface only occasionally. Is there a place, social media (?) whereupon we can all aggregate all our "similarly painfully expensive stories with no end in sight" and get the oxygen of publicity long denied us? With Brexit soon upon us there is no reason for any British suffering here to remain unaware of "Contra os Bretões marchar, marchar!"
Many of us have met such Portuguese Court clerks and local Prosecutors and continually making excuses that we caught them on a bad day or their grandfather had just died no longer wash. Not when they follow their rudeness up and harang your lawyer to tell you to keep away from their court ... until called. Portugal told Brussels that it intended to evolve 30+ years ago - once in Europe - and your story and the thousands like it proves it has not. Perhaps even gone backwards!

HMM
I am sure ED would of preferred to sort things out with out going before the courts. Recently a young lady was imprisoned just for airing her views on said judicial system.

Is this not the Galp-ENI game, to drag things out and raise ASMAA costs ? At what stage does the judge, if ever, realise that this is 'contempt of court' - or can ASMAA trigger the contempt claim to check if their judge has been nobbled?

Hmm.
Consider the Judge who is paid by the State can in any account be considered
impartial when deliberating a case brought against same said state .. :-*

The judiciary is independent of the executive. I asked the Minister of Justice why my case in Loule Court has taken five years not even to be listed and she told me to 'ask the court' as it was totally independent of her ministry. When I asked the Court I was told that I was 'harassing the judge', not that I had contacted the judge, only the clerk in charge of scheduling. He even phoned my lawyer to complain. So, independent and totally inefficient.

HMM.
What can I say to that Ed. Bravo

It's obvious that the Government & Galp have their own agenda. Something which was suspected from day 1. Please support ASMAA and make a donation. It's important to keep the ball rolling!
