More motorhome parking areas for the Algarve

motorhomesilvesfinedSilves Council is to build a caravan park in Messines as part of an expansion of the motorhome parking area network across Silves, Tavira and São Brás de Alportel.

The total cost of projects in these Council areas is €590,000, attracting a 70% grant from the European Regional Development Fund.

The Silves Council project has been approved and work began a while ago to provide a motorhome service area of 30 spaces in Messines, with the possibility of additional facilities including a reception area, a service station, fencing and gardens, washing and toilet facilities, a water network and lighting.

With a total area of around 5,500 m2, the Messines motorhome service area is part of a wider development that will include the Bus Terminal and an area for markets and events, plus car parking.

It is hoped that the new caravan park and bus terminal in Messines will be completed by the end of 2020.

Tavira and São Brás de Alportel Councils have yet to announce the location of their additional motorhome parks.

The area next to Lagos Municipal Stadium looks like a war zone with hundreds of camper vans in a location that was designed for 12.
Even the local gypsies turn their noses up.

Is this new caravan park really needed? In spite of existing space, many of the "big spending tourists" to which readers are constantly referring elect to save the few pence and park illegally in residential areas, on beaches, or in commercial centres.

Hopefully improved road access is part of the plan.
