Faro harbour dredging contract - tendering process allows an extra €100,000

FaroDocksNewMarinaSmallDocapesca has announced a new public tender to dredge Faro harbour for an increased target price of €375,000.

The launch of this new tender, already published in Diário da República, follows up an earlier failed tendering process launched on August 16, 2018, in which all the bids received were over the maximum price.

As no company could be found to do the work for the money available, Docapasca has upped the price by €100,000 and increased the period from one month to four.

"The need to revise the project was related to the current navigation conditions in the Ria Formosa’s channels, which imply a significant extension of the period required to carry out the project," Docapesca said in a statement, mentioning nothing about the extra €100,000 or why the poor access has not been taken into account earlier.

A question regularly raised by the historians amongst ADN's readership but are there archaeologists on board the dredgers ready to stop the work if anything historic is suspected to have been found? Just lately a Roman harbour in the Algarve has been excavated some distance inland so clearly the coastline has moved back and forth over the centuries.
