RC Estoi Palace (RCEPI) held a membership evening for possible new members at About Wine in Faro on the 26th of April. 9 guests attended the evening accompanied by their sponsoring Rotarians. The evening was hosted by RCEPI Honorary Member, Luis Figueiro owner of About Wine - www.aboutwine.pt
The evening started with all those present introducing themselves. The President of RCEPI, Bruno Costa Sousa, gave a short talk on the achievements of the Club over the last few years and the values of Rotary. In the 10 years since it´s inauguration, RC Estoi Palace has participated in numerous initiatives to enhance the local community. The Club has worked with the local Estoi School and Estoi Community Centre to provide much needed equipment and to sponsor a local girl who is losing her sight through University and assist with her medical treatment. In 2016 the Club joined forces with other Rotary Clubs and local charities to purchase a mobile unit to house breast screening equipment for the Algarve Oncology Association and in 2018 RCEPI were involved in the purchase of another mobile unit to provide skin and lung cancer testing throughout the Algarve. The Club has also purchased a refrigerated truck for Faro Food Bank and was instrumental in the purchase of fully equipped ambulance for the Sao Bras Bombeiros. The Rotary motto is Service above Self and the Club President explained how the values of Rotary can enrich not only the local community but also those individual Rotarians who take part in the projects
Peter Zahner head of the Membership committee spoke of the ideals of Rotary and provided information on how to join this fantastic organisation.
This was followed by an informative talk from Luis about the finger food and the wines which we would taste. We were encouraged to try certain foods with certain wines.
It was a very convivial evening and refreshing to see so many younger people interested in what Rotary does and stands for.
