Good Loulé Carnival results benefit local charities

Loulé Carnival organisers sold a total of 61,000 tickets, against 64,000 last year, according to the president of the local council, which he considers has "accomplished the goal."

Confessing that he had "feared the worst" due to the government decision not to give the day off to civil servants, the mayor described as "very good" the turnout of revelers, in spite of the government’s decision and the current economic crisis .

The poorest of the three days was Saturday, with just over 11,000 people, but Sunday and Tuesday saw 25,000 on each day.

Seruca Emídio recognised that the good result this year was influenced by good weather unlike the rain in 2011 that almost led to the cancellation of the parade on the Monday.

The ticket price was two euros, and as is traditional, the council will give much of the net proceeds to the António Aleixo Foundation. Money will also go to local groups that were involved in the carnival. This year's budget was €250,000, €100,000 less than last year’s.
