What better way to influence Russian and US travel journalists than to invite them on an all expenses paid trip to the Algarve.
This week, funded by the Tourism Association of Algarve in partnership with TAP and Ural Airlines, the Algarve is hosting a bevvy of journalists who will get to understand “the diversity of the offer and the excellence of the region as a tourist destination.”
Visitors to the Algarve from the US have increased in number by 23% since 2016 and the country now is number 11 on list of where people come from.
As for Russian tourists, having been deterred by what politely was referred to as 'internal economic problems', signs of recovery have begun to appear and last year the Algarve had more than 40,000 overnight stays from Russian tourists despite a five and half hour flight from Moscow.
This sort of press boondoggle is a cost-effective way of getting thirsty journalists to concentrate on the message that the Algarve is the place to be.
