World Day of Consumer Rights
- Written by Paul Rees
March 15th is the World Day of Consumer Rights, publicised by the media to schools and the general public.
The World Day of Consumer Rights is celebrated on March 15 because it was on this date in 1962, then President of the United States of America, John F. Kennedy made a statement that opened the discussion on the fundamental rights of consumers.
In 1985 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the consumer rights which are now listed in the guidelines of the United Nations to give them legitimacy and international recognition in the constitution. This was an important step in the field of protection of consumer rights, because even there the protection of consumer rights was still limited.
It is extremely important that both sides of the economic process, buyer and seller, know their rights and obligations better to defend their interests.
Principal Rights:
The Right to Quality of Goods and Services
The Right to Protection and Safety
The Right to Consumer Education
The Right to Information
The Right to Protection of Economic Interests
The Right to Repair and Prevention of Damage
The Right to Legal Protection and legal recourse
The right of representatation of their interests.
