Boliqueime is a small village that comes under the district of Loule, the Algarve is famous for its chimneys they are unique to this area and come in all shapes and sizes, it is said that the larger more elaborate the chimney the more wealth you had, yet you will often see grande chimneys on small cottages. The small village of Boliqueime celebrates this by having the chimney on its coat of arms.
The village has the largest cement factory in the Algarve and can be seen from the A22 motorway, and sits above sea level of around 45 metres so has good sea views.
There is a small square at the centre of the village, with the main church being the dominant building in the centre. There are many narrow streets that are narrow and cobbled stone, the village has remnants of some wealth in the past, as there are evidence of merchants houses with stone door surround, as well as wrought iron balconies and window grills.
Boliqueime has a monthly market on the last Thursday of the month (see Markets ) with many good restaurants, some with fantastic sunset views. The village is well worth the inland visit for those staying closer to the coast.
